Creek in the gorge

A rhododendron thicket holds the near bank in solid green while the far slope has gone over entirely to gold, and the creek, slowed here, mirrors both. The rhododendron is the native rosebay, which grows only in the cool damp of the gorges and keeps its leaves all year - and in a hard frost rolls them into tight tubes, which unroll again the moment it warms.
