Cove below the bluffs

Sandstone cliffs cut through by a stream and dropping to a pale, driftwood-strewn beach, the whole clifftop carpeted in iceplant just coming into flower.

The iceplant is a South African succulent, introduced early in the twentieth century to stabilise railway embankments and dunes, that has since spread along most of this coast. It does the job it was brought for too well, and smothers everything that was there before.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
