A single oak lit against a darker wooded ridge, a stone manor half-hidden in the trees across the valley, the storm light picking out exactly the tree the composition needed. The stone is the point of the Cotswolds: an oolitic limestone, honey-coloured, laid down as a shallow Jurassic sea, and everything from the manor to the field walls is built of it because for centuries there was nothing else to build with.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
