A solitary oak holding its silhouette against a low November sun, the field around it already cut and gone gold.
Cotswold fields keep a scatter of standalone trees like this one for a practical reason as much as an aesthetic one. Hedgerow and field-corner oaks were traditionally left for shade and shelter for livestock, and the habit has long outlasted the arable use most of this land has now.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
