The Five Towers, a cluster of dolomite pinnacles near Cortina d'Ampezzo that also did service as a First World War Austro-Hungarian defensive position.
Some of the trenches and gun emplacements cut into the rock around the base are still walkable today. The front line ran along these peaks for three years, and more men died of cold and avalanche than of fighting.
