Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood
St Petersburg · 26 September 2017

Something like seven thousand square metres of mosaic, covering essentially every interior surface - among the largest schemes of its kind anywhere. Laying it is most of the reason the church took twenty-four years to build, begun in 1883 on the spot where Alexander II was assassinated.
It survived the Soviet period as a vegetable warehouse, which earned it a local nickname: the Saviour on Potatoes.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
