Canterbury Cathedral at night
Canterbury · 23 December 2023

Bell Harry, the central tower, finished in 1498 and the last major addition to a building that had already been growing for eight hundred years by then: a Norman crypt underneath, an early Gothic choir rebuilt after a fire in 1174, and a nave replaced again a couple of centuries after that.
The floodlighting picks out exactly the stonework meant to be looked up at from here - pinnacles, tracery, the fan vaulting under the tower's crown. A single small Christmas tree stands at the base, dwarfed on purpose or not.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
