A female Blue Dasher perched dead level on a seed pod in the August border, wings swept slightly forward. Blue Dashers are the commonest pond dragonfly across most of the United States, and one of the few equally happy over open water or well back in the surrounding vegetation.
Green-eyed and pale-faced. The female is yellow and brown; only the mature male earns the powder-blue abdomen the species is named for.
