The island closer in: the Assumption of Mary church, its bell tower rebuilt after an earthquake in the seventeenth century, and the huddle of outbuildings that have grown up around it over the centuries the site has been a pilgrimage stop.
Tradition holds that a wish made while ringing the tower's bell will come true, which is most of why the pletna boats keep making the crossing. The boats themselves are a local monopoly, built and rowed by a handful of families since the eighteenth century.
