Above the clouds

A pine-covered ridge breaking the surface of a solid cloud layer below.

The trade winds pile cloud up against Tenerife's northern slopes at a fairly consistent altitude, which is exactly why the island's observatories and its highest trails so often sit in clear air above a sea of it. The pines are Canary Island pines, the only tree that grows up here, and they survive fire by sprouting from the trunk.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
