A slope gone over to iceplant
Coastal areas Northern California · 24 April 2025

White and pale pink flowers packed densely enough to read as a lawn rather than individual plants, running right to the cliff edge with the Pacific beyond.
The density is the problem with this species. Almost nothing else gets a foothold once it is established, and the mat is heavy enough with stored water that on a steep slope it can pull the whole face down with it in a wet winter.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
