A peak through the pines

Cloud sitting halfway up a limestone face, framed between two spruces - a view that lasts only as long as the cloud keeps moving, which in the Dolomites is rarely long. The pale rock and the dark trees are the two halves of the range: above the treeline the reef limestone is too dry and too bare for anything to grow, and below it the spruce forest is so dense that the peaks vanish the moment you walk into it.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
