A leaning cypress

A bald cypress canted out low over the water, Spanish moss trailing almost to the surface, with a stand of its neighbours doubled behind it in the reflection. Bald cypress is a conifer that drops its needles in winter, hence the name, and the swollen, buttressed base of the trunk on the right is the tree's answer to standing in water for most of its life. The moss is not a moss but a bromeliad, a relative of the pineapple, rooted in nothing and living on rain and dust.
