A field in the Zillertal

From the air, over Fügen in the Tyrol. The tractor is working a hay meadow on a slope steep enough that the machine itself, rather than the crop, becomes the subject. Black and white for the grain of the cut grass, which reads as texture in a way colour would have flattened.

Alpine hay meadows like this are cut two or three times a season and are among the most species-rich grassland in Europe - provided they are cut late enough for whatever is flowering to have set seed.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
